Self Sustaining Garden

A self sustaining garden that is fully autonomous will allow everyone and anyone who has space, but maybe not the time, or the capability to grow and enjoy a garden. This self sustaining garden project includes 2 major systems; the watering and shading systems. This means the system will not fertilize, weed, or harvest itself, so the garden will still need some supervision and monitoring throughout the season.

The watering system regulates the amount of water each zone of the garden gets. The water is collected when it rains, and is stored in a tank next to the garden. The water is distributed to the different zones by gravity and the weight of the water in the tank. The system includes the use of multiple sensors and valves, and you can learn much more about this system by going to the Watering System tab on the Design page.

The shading system provides shade to the garden when it is needed, but also allows sun into the garden when shade is not needed. The shade works like venetian blinds, except that it follows the sun to position the shade in the best position possible using a servo motor to apply rotation. This system also includes the use of different sensors, and more can be learned about this system by going to the Shading System tab on the Design page.
